What challenges did we face?
The project site is located within a former quarry – now disused and backfilled. This resulted in complex ground preparation prior to construction.
We assisted Hayfield Homes with the detailed remediation and dynamic compaction process, which resulted in NHBC approving an industry standard foundation solution.
What we delivered
The existing pumping station on site needed to be redesigned, which allowed a traditional sheet and frame temporary works system to be installed to depths of over 10m.
Complexities included running sand and a high water table; to overcome this we installed a full well-point dewatering system, which allowed safe access into the pumping station.
What challenges did we face?
This was a challenging first development for Vistry Northern Home Counties in Cranfield, Bedfordshire.
As a solution for reducing both carbon exposure and project costs, we worked with Vistry’s commercial and technical departments to value engineer both subsoil and topsoil disposal quantities.
What we delivered
This value engineering was achieved by our in-house engineering department, who developed a detailed earthworks model, amending site levels to successfully accommodate the site’s total soil quantity.
This was then reviewed and perfected by Vistry’s own engineers and the final strategy resulted in huge value engineered savings for the project.
Having won a competitive tender process, the collaborative approach to cost engineering solutions in a challenging market was refreshing and welcomed.

What challenges did we face?
The site had restricted access with a large off-site haul road – temporary access was successfully installed through third-party land.
On-site water levels were under constant pressure – this was overcome by constructing temporary holding ponds.
The built-up residential area required careful management, with deliveries and plant access carefully planned to reduce the disruption for residents and the local school.
What we delivered
Within 12 months of commencement, 90 new homes were completed, along with the adoptable infrastructures both on and off-site.
Since their introduction to our business, MIDA have grown to become one of our “go to” groundworks contractors.

What challenges did we face?
This was a hugely complex project within Wellingborough’s largest strategic development.
Ground conditions and level differences on site meant a detailed earthworks operation was necessary, achieved concurrently with the installation of infrastructure.
Permanent retaining solutions were constructed in advance of the groundworks, foundations and substructure works to resolve this issue.
What we delivered
With the latest 3D machine control technology available, the in-house MIDA engineering department designed a bespoke earthworks model.
This allowed the site to progress permanent works, ensuring the delivery programme maintained the planned schedule.

What challenges did we face?
This was the first development in decades in the existing village of Stilton. This meant that it was vital the initial phase of construction was sympathetic to the local residents and environment, and ensured compliance with the local authorities construction management plan.
What we delivered
As well as managing the construction project in a way which avoided disrupting local residents, we redesigned service routes to limit and mitigate the level of temporary works required to provide access/egress to the construction site.
This was achieved by careful and considered project planning in partnership with Bellway’s own engineers, and relevant utility providers.
Limiting temporary works and progressing to the permanent works solution reduced potential disruption locally, and saw construction run efficiently.
MIDA provide a fresh approach to working with clients by bringing valuable experience to the table. As well as assisting with the value engineering of a development that works for both contractor and client, they rarely step away from delivering a quality product and service

What challenges did we face?
To meet an accelerated client build programme, we increased resource for this construction project, pulling delivery dates forward. We aim to have the front-end groundworks for this development completed within a seven-month period.
