National Apprenticeship Week: Interview with Alex Moody, Apprentice
As part of National Apprenticeship Week 2023, we sat down with Alex Moody to allow him to reflect on his valuable experience as an apprentice at MIDA.
What attracted you to a career in Construction & Civil Engineering?
It’s something I’ve had an interest in from a young age. I like the variety of work and being able to work in an office but also getting to go out on-site to see projects develop.
What course are you currently studying?
I’m currently in my first year at Bedford College, studying a T-level Qualification in Design, Planning and Surveying within the construction industry. The course covers several areas such as quantity surveying, architecture, land surveying and civil engineering.
What prior studying did you do to obtain a place on your apprenticeship?
I successfully passed my GCSEs which allowed me to apply for my college course.
What are the advantages of being an apprentice with MIDA?
I’m gaining experience from a very skilled group of people, in an encouraging and friendly environment.
What do you most enjoy about working at MIDA?
I enjoy working at MIDA because everyone is very supportive and friendly.
How have MIDA supported you with your learning and development?
MIDA are helping me understand the practical side of the profession, whilst gaining insight into the different areas within the construction industry.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years’ time and what are your future goals?
In 5 years’ time, I hope to be halfway through a quantity surveying degree.
