MIDA Civil Engineering Ltd has been awarded two prestigious Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Awards, demonstrating the company’s continued commitment to health and safety excellence.

Following on from last year’s success, MIDA won a RoSPA Gold Award – for health and safety performance, and a RoSPA Fleet Safety Gold Award – for managing occupational road risk.

The awards are some of the most sought-after achievements within the health and safety industry – with RoSPA receiving 2,000 entries from over 50 countries, every year.

The awards recognises organisations’ commitment to continuous improvement in the prevention of accidents and ill health at work, looking at entrants’ overarching health and safety management systems, including practices such as leadership and workforce involvement.

Over the past year, MIDA has delivered numerous health and safety related improvements and initiatives across the company – here are some of the highlights:

Service avoidance workshops

MIDA’s Site Managers, Operatives and Senior Management Team have attended multiple EUSR category (Cat & Genny) and Category 2: Implement Safe (Digging) Excavating Practices training to improve knowledge and requirements around HSG47.

Focus on temporary works

MIDA has put a dedicated temporary works team in place and provided CITB training to all personnel involved in the process.

Operational Standards & Instructions

As part of a commitment to setting a new standard of excellence, MIDA launched the first revision of their health and safety Operational Standards & Instructions – a set of guidelines and processes that can be referenced (both physically and/or digitally) by employees on site.

Plant exclusion campaign

Last year, MIDA launched a safe zone plant exclusion campaign which will evolve this year by trialling the latest AI technology to improve operative safety.

Training

MIDA continues to deliver internal and external training courses to ensure the continued development of employees.  Safety critical medicals have also been rolled out across sites to ensure operatives are fit to work.

Daniel Bailey, Head of HSE&T at MIDA Civils commented:

“We are thrilled to have achieved RoSPA Double Gold for the second year running, in addition to other recent accolades such as an International Safety Award with Distinction from the British Safety Council – and our recent upgrade to CHAS ‘Elite’ – all evidence of our unwavering commitment towards health and safety across the business.”
